Hive Mechanic | Playful City Lab
(2019 - 2020)

Hive Mechanic is an open-source design tool created with ordinary people in mind. It is designed to help makers and communities to create their own games and playful activities. Notable projects I helped create in Hive Mechanic include:

  • Alley Hoppin’: An exhibition curated by El Studio to change the way we think about our local alleyways in DC. Visitors are encouraged to contribute photos of their alleyways through MMS which are automatically printed out and mounted as part of a growing interactive collage.

  • Buoyant Oracle: An interactive extension of the Buoyant Force sculpture created by Sue Wrbican in Reston Town Square Park. It allows for the personification of the statue and highlighting of local artists’ work through interactive SMS messages.

  • Adams Morgan History Scavenger Hunt: Created for the longest-running neighborhood festival in DC, this SMS-based transmedia scavenger hunt was created to showcase the local history of Adams Morgan. It also features archival photographs of Adams Morgan provided by the DC Public Library.

DC Storytelling System | Playful City Lab
(2019 - 2020)

The DC Storytelling System is an interactive story circulation system designed to preserve and distribute local stories across DC neighborhoods. Our system has been tested in public installations at numerous events and locations across the city, including the Anacostia Community Museum, the Mount Pleasant Neighborhood Library, and Adams Morgan Day 2019. It was created by the Playful City Lab in collaboration with the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum, DC Public Libraries, and the AU Humanities Truck.

You can call (202) 335-7288* right now to try it out for yourself!

*The hotline is currently focused on collecting stories centered on COVID-19 as part of the Smithsonian Anacostia Community Museum’s #Moments of Resilience exhibition.

Anti-Villains | KIX 2015
(2014 - 2015)

Anti-Villains is an interactive exhibition that challenges the way you think about villains. By analyzing examples from both pop culture and real life, visitors learned why villains do “evil” things and why they might not so evil after all.

Generation Eh | imagiNation 150
(2016 - 2017)

Generation Eh is a collaborative, story-sharing toolkit designed to facilitate conversations between youth and senior immigrants. It was created in partnership with imagiNation 150 as part of Canada’s 150th anniversary.
